Description
The Massachusetts Historical Society (MHS) offers short-term fellowships for independent scholars, advanced graduate students, and holders of a Ph.D. or equivalent who need to use its collections. The program combines awards open to any project suited to the Society’s holdings with fellowships focused on particular historical subjects, communities, periods, and materials.
Supported research spans colonial history, the American Revolution, military history, African American history, women’s history, religion, environmental history, and the long twentieth century. Other awards support documentary editing, Adams family research, graphic materials, reading and publishing, Boston club life, and Massachusetts’s relationship with the wider world. Most funding supports academic projects, although exceptional non-academic projects making excellent use of the collections are occasionally funded.
