Description
The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Sign Replacement Grant helps Iowa cities and counties replace damaged, worn out, obsolete, or substandard signs and signposts. It supports eligible regulatory, warning, and school area signs, along with posts and bases needing replacement. The program renews existing signage rather than funding signs at locations where none exist, and replacements must remain in the same general locations.
The program also reimburses new or replacement reflective sign-post strips for chevron and stop sign posts. Communities assess their replacement needs and are responsible for proper post location and installation. Signs and posts may come from the Iowa DOT Sign Shop or another supplier. Funding generally operates through reimbursement, with an advance-funding hardship option for cities with populations under 500.
