Signals and ITS Standalone Program (SISP) supports municipalities and WisDOT project sponsors in improving traffic signals and transportation systems to advance mobility, operations and safety on Wisconsin highways.

Funding Amounts: Up to $1,250,000 per application; 100% program funding for approved statewide and regional projects, or 90% for connecting highway projects

Description
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Signals and ITS Standalone Program (SISP) supports the installation, replacement and rehabilitation of traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) when that work is not incidental to another highway improvement. Eligible settings include state and Interstate highways, connecting highways, statewide projects and state-maintained facilities.
Projects may involve signal upgrades, intersection communications, ITS devices, software or crosswalk technology. The program also identifies research and development projects and connected and autonomous vehicle deployments among its “other” project examples. WisDOT evaluates applications in spring and fall cycles, with regional rankings and committee scoring informing awards for future fiscal years.
