Key Information: Applicants must pursue cross-disciplinary training with U.S.-based sponsors who are not their thesis advisers.
The Simons Foundation’s Postdoctoral Fellowships in Plant Biology support scientists pursuing careers in basic research on fundamental questions about how plants work. The program focuses on the inner workings of plants at the level of the whole organism or below and is designed to bring diverse expertise into plant science, including engineering, computational modeling, theory, chemistry, synthetic biology and physics.
Applicants must follow one of two complementary paths: plant biologists acquiring new skills with mentors outside plant biology, or researchers from other fields applying their expertise to plant biology. Either path may involve one or two mentors. The fellowship supports full-time, mentored research intended to build connections between plant science and other disciplines.
