Key Information: Applicants must have a physical space; funding cannot provide primary support for establishing or operating an institute.
The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division runs this one-time call for established institutes and centers addressing challenges at the intersection of mathematics and artificial intelligence. Created in partnership with Anthropic and OpenAI, the program supports workshops and initiatives that help researchers evaluate recent AI-assisted results using the mathematics community’s standards, learn and use new tools, exchange perspectives and shape collective standards for AI use.
The emphasis is on scientific activities and connections across the research community, rather than primary support for an institute’s establishment or operation. Funding can support visiting researchers, postdoctoral fellows, research associates and graduate students, alongside scientific meetings, visitor expenses and administration of the supported activities. Anthropic and OpenAI may provide additional awards separately from the foundation.
