Description
The Sir Julian Corbett Prize in Modern Naval History rewards original historical research. It is awarded annually by the Academic Trust Funds Committee on the recommendation of the Institute of Historical Research (IHR). The competition is open to researchers regardless of nationality or academic affiliation.
The prize takes a broad view of naval history, encompassing warfare at sea, the social history of naval personnel, their familial and professional networks, and naval administration and technology. Its chronological scope extends from the end of the fifth century AD to the present day. Entries take the form of original research essays, and the winning piece will be published in the IHR’s peer-reviewed journal, Historical Research.
