Description
The Sister M. Claude Lane, O.P., Memorial Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of religious archives. Created in 1974, it is administered by the Society of American Archivists (SAA) and funded by the Society of Southwest Archivists. The award honors professional achievement and leadership rather than supporting a proposed research project.
Selection considers involvement in SAA’s Archivists of Religious Collections Section, contributions to archival literature relating to religious archives, participation and leadership in religious archives organizations, and evidence of leadership within a specific religious archives. The award commemorates Sister M. Claude Lane, O.P., the first professionally trained archivist at the Catholic Archives of Texas in Austin, where she served from 1960 until her death in 1974.
