    Description

The Pamela and Alexander F. Skutch Keystone Grants are administered by the Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO). They support question-driven research and other projects that expand knowledge of the natural history, ecology, and conservation of birds living under natural conditions in Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Primarily or exclusively observational studies are eligible when they are designed to provide new information.

The program continues Alexander Skutch’s lifelong interest in bird behavior and life histories, particularly research by people who live in the Neotropics. Its supporting fund was established by Dr. and Mrs. Skutch following a joint ornithological meeting in Costa Rica in 1997. Past funded work includes studies of breeding biology, nesting behavior, habitat use, feeding ecology, migration, and conservation status.
