The Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA) PhD Fieldwork Grants Scheme provides practical support for postgraduate research where other funding sources are unavailable. It welcomes applications from postgraduate research members working in any area of socio-legal studies, rather than restricting support to a particular topic. The scheme is overseen by the association’s Grants Committee, with awards made by the SLSA Board.
Past supported projects illustrate its breadth: disability assessments in India and the United Kingdom, police identity in Chile, accountability for protracted displacement, copyright protection for visual art used in artificial intelligence training, pension tax inequality, Myanmar activists’ understandings of justice, and protection of Indigenous territories in Brazil. The emphasis is on enabling fieldwork that helps socio-legal research proceed.
