Summary: Supports equipment purchases and facilities improvements that strengthen organizations’ capacity to meet community arts needs in southwest Minnesota.
Key Information: Applicants must be located in the SMAC service region; non-arts organizations must directly support community arts needs.
The Southwest Minnesota Arts Council (SMAC) funds equipment purchases and facilities improvements that strengthen organizations’ capacity to serve the region’s arts needs. Common requests include sound and lighting equipment, structural and accessibility improvements, office equipment, and storage. The program primarily serves arts organizations, but non-arts organizations may apply when the equipment or improvements principally support community arts projects.
The FY 2027 program emphasizes the investment’s impact on future high-quality arts activities, alongside organizational merit and project feasibility. Applicants describe how the project builds on their mission and programming, what changes they expect, and how they will measure results. Funding comes from Minnesota voters through a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
