Funding Amounts: £200–£600 per conference; generally around £70 per supported delegate
Summary: Supports research-led Renaissance conferences, principally through fee waivers and attendance bursaries for postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers.
Key Information: Applicants must be Society members; postgraduate applicants require approval from an academic at their institution.
The Society for Renaissance Studies supports conference organisers delivering research-led events that disseminate Renaissance scholarship. The programme understands the Renaissance broadly as approximately 1300–1670, encompassing any subject or geographical area. Its principal purpose is to enable postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers to attend conferences where research is shared, rather than events primarily devoted to training.
Support generally takes the form of conference fee waivers or bursaries for travel and accommodation. Bursaries can also contribute to alternative arrangements for participants with caring responsibilities. The Society prefers to spread support across several delegates. Awards are assessed on intellectual merit, project significance and the originality of the event, with possible preference for institutions under-represented in SRS conference grant funding.
