The Honor Frost Foundation’s Small Grant Award supports maritime archaeology through two broad priorities: Regional Research and Developing the Discipline. Its regional focus is the eastern Mediterranean, particularly Cyprus, Lebanon and Syria, where Honor Frost worked, with support also extending to Sicily and Malta. The Foundation prefers projects with strong regional partnerships, especially those offering local training opportunities and strengthening the regional research environment.
Beyond this geographical focus, the programme considers projects developing new technologies or methodologies for maritime archaeology and underwater cultural heritage worldwide. In exceptional cases, it also supports research outside the region aligned with Honor Frost’s research interests. Its priorities include high-quality research, regional skills and capacity, interconnected activities delivering multiple benefits, and increased visibility and value for marine cultural heritage.
