Description
The American Philosophical Association’s Small Grant Fund supports projects and initiatives that benefit the philosophical community. Launched in 2007 and supported by the APA Eastern Division, the program emphasizes short-term seed funding to help new and innovative work get started. The Board of Officers strongly favors pilot projects over established activities seeking repeat or sustaining support, reflecting the APA’s limited capacity to provide long-term or indefinite funding.
The program has supported work ranging from philosophy outreach and public engagement to mentoring, conferences, and educational resources. Past recipients include the Public Philosophy Network, the Collegium of Black Women Philosophers Conference, Philosophy Talk, and Wireless Philosophy (Wi-Phi). The APA also prefers projects with impacts beyond a single institution or campus.
