Summary: Supports Society members undertaking novel, scientifically rigorous research in fish biology and fisheries science.
Key Information: Applicants must be paid-up FSBI members applying as individuals and serving as the project's principal investigator.
The Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI) funds small research projects addressing any aspect of fish biology and fisheries science relevant to its objectives. The programme supports novel investigations rather than concentrating on a single topic. Research may concern any finfish species, including interactions with non-fish taxa, provided fish biology remains the focus.
FSBI seeks studies with clear aims, robust methods, scientific quality and a credible, justified budget. It looks especially favourably on research areas that are difficult to fund through national or local sources, and favours researchers at the start of their careers, including FSBI studentship holders. Projects should be stand-alone investigations that deliver tangible scientific value, rather than simply support work already in progress.
