Description
The Small Urban Program, also called the Small Cities Program, is a Surface Transportation Block Grant program for road and transit projects in Michigan’s small urban communities. The Michigan Department of Transportation’s Office of Passenger Transportation (OPT) administers transit-project funds, which are allocated through local project selection.
Eligible transit work includes buying, rehabilitating, or leasing buses and vans; obtaining support vehicles and equipment; constructing, improving, or purchasing facilities; and installing bus or facility security systems. The program is part of a flexible federal surface transportation funding framework that allows certain highway funds to be transferred to transit projects and vice versa.
