The Smart Growth Grant program, administered by the National Association of Realtors (NAR), provides funding to state and local REALTOR® associations to support the planning and implementation of activities that advance sustainable land use, improved transportation systems, and long-term community success. Projects must align with at least two of the 10 Smart Growth Principles, which include mixed land uses, walkable neighborhoods, transportation choices, and fostering distinctive communities.
The grant program is structured in three levels, supporting a range of activities—from educational events to comprehensive, multi-stakeholder initiatives with broad community impact. Associations can use the funding for expert speakers, community forums, planning sessions, public input surveys, policy development, and more. The program emphasizes collaboration among REALTORS®, public officials, and private stakeholders and encourages sharing of success stories and best practices.
