The Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (SARF) is designed for accomplished visual artists seeking to immerse themselves in the Smithsonian’s museums, research sites, and collections. Established in 2007, SARF offers a unique opportunity for artists to undertake a one-month research residency, working closely with Smithsonian scholars and resources. The program aims to foster innovative, cross-disciplinary research bridging art, science, history, and culture, inspiring new creative directions and strengthening the arts community. The fellowship is exclusively for research purposes—no studio space or art production is supported.
