The Social Policy Association (SPA) Opportunity Grants programme supports events that showcase research, explore learning and teaching, start conversations and connect different academic perspectives. Events may bring together academics, students, practitioners, service-users, policymakers and others with a stake in social policy. They may focus on the UK or compare national contexts. Support encompasses small exploratory activities, larger events, event series and the establishment and initial stages of networks.
The programme welcomes any topic within social policy broadly understood. For Autumn 2026, priorities are promoting social policy research’s appeal and relevance to teachers, policy professionals and the wider public; involving the third sector; and engaging local public sector organisations. These priorities are not mandatory, but applications addressing them may receive preference. The programme aims to forge partnerships, share knowledge and set agendas rather than fund new research.
