Description
The Dorothy Horstmann Society Citation Award is a discretionary honor presented by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). It recognizes an exemplary contribution to the Society, an outstanding discovery in infectious diseases, or a lifetime of outstanding achievement. The award celebrates service and scientific accomplishment rather than funding a proposed research project, and more than one recipient may be recognized each year.
The award honors Dorothy Horstmann, MD, FIDSA, a virologist, epidemiologist and pediatrician whose research helped pave the way for a polio vaccine. She was also IDSA’s first woman president. Contributions celebrated through the award span scientific discovery, Society leadership, clinical care, clinician education and efforts to improve care in underserved communities.
