The Society for Ethnomusicology’s Applied Ethnomusicology Section offers annual travel awards to help Section members and invited guests attend the Society’s annual conference. The awards promote discussion and information sharing about research, issues, theory, methods, and projects that apply ethnomusicological scholarship in the public arena.
Support is intended to strengthen dialogue within the Section and the wider Society membership, inspire new work, and foster critical thinking about applied ethnomusicology. Conference participation should encourage exchange among scholars, artists, and the general public about linking scholarship to practical pursuits in the public interest. The Section’s broader work encompasses education, cultural policy, conflict resolution, medicine, arts programming, and community music.
