Summary: Supports research centering the contraceptive experiences and preferences of people with higher body weight to advance evidence-informed, person-centered care.
Key Information: Awards are limited to tax-exempt organizations on behalf of a named principal investigator, for research focused on people in the US.
The Society for Family Planning supports research on the contraceptive experiences and preferences of people with higher body weight, an understudied population with unmet contraceptive needs. The opportunity seeks empirical evidence with a clear, concrete, and strategic path to influencing clinical practice, health services delivery, and other structures supporting evidence-informed, person-centered contraceptive care.
Studies may address any contraceptive method or component of contraceptive care, provided those choices are clearly named and justified. Research should examine how social location—including race, ethnicity, religion, social class, gender, age, health, and geography—and stigma related to body weight and size shape participants’ experiences. The Society prioritizes rigorous, equity-informed research and thoughtful reflection on how team members’ identities and lived experiences influence project design, feasibility, and impact.
