The Society for Music Theory’s Independent, Unsupported, or Undersupported Scholar Travel Grant helps defray the costs of attending the SMT Annual Meeting for scholars who face financial difficulties and have no access to other funding. It supports conference participation rather than a separate research project, with complimentary registration included alongside the monetary award.
The program welcomes adjunct instructors, independent scholars without academic positions, and other scholars whose circumstances make conference attendance financially difficult. SMT membership is not required. Preference is given to applicants presenting a paper and those who have not previously received this grant. Donations to the SMT-Forward campaign help make these awards possible.
