Key Information: Do not register for the conference until you receive notice of your application status.
The Society for Music Theory’s International Travel Grant helps music theorists based outside the United States and Canada participate in the society’s Annual Meeting. Administered by the Committee on Race and Ethnicity, the program reduces attendance costs and provides complimentary conference registration rather than funding a separate research project. Theorists at all career stages, including graduate students, are encouraged to apply.
The program connects conference participation with applicants’ research interests in music theory. Preference goes first to students and then to junior scholars, while at least one grant is guaranteed for a senior scholar attending the meeting. Applications are evaluated using research interests and, for specified applicant groups, financial need; senior scholars also describe their contribution to the meeting and anticipated expenses and support.
