Key Information: Applicants must be SOT members within 10 years of completing their highest degree at the application deadline.
The Society of Toxicology’s Food Safety Specialty Section (FSSS) recognizes early career scientists whose scientific achievements are accompanied by outstanding leadership and service. The award covers food safety and related areas, including nutrition, supplements, food contaminants, and food packaging. It honors contributions to the scientific and toxicology community rather than funding a particular research project or method.
Leadership and service are central to selection, alongside scientific merit. Relevant contributions include elected or appointed leadership in local or global scientific organizations, service to scientific organizations and events, participation in trade organizations, and coordination of scientific seminar series. The award is supported by the Frank C. Lu Food Safety Student Award Fund of the SOT Endowment, managed by FSSS.
