    Description

The Society of Toxicology’s Mechanisms Specialty Section offers the Gabriel L. Plaa Education Award to postdoctoral trainees. Supported by the Gabriel L. Plaa Education Award Fund of the SOT Endowment, the award recognizes research that advances mechanistic toxicology alongside contributions to education and mentoring in toxicology.

The award honors Dr. Gabriel L. Plaa (1930–2009), whose research made outstanding contributions to understanding chemical-induced liver injury. Plaa served as SOT President from 1983–1984 and played a major role in educating graduate and postgraduate students. The award connects his scientific legacy with his influence as an educator and mentor, including former students who went on to hold leadership roles and receive awards within SOT.
