Due Dates: August 14, 2026 (Applications open) | December 1, 2026 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Up to $2,500, plus an engraved plaque
Summary: Supports early-career scientists’ specialized training or educational webinar development in innovative inhalation and respiratory toxicology methods.
Key Information: SOT membership is required (any membership category is acceptable).
The Society of Toxicology’s Inhalation and Respiratory Specialty Section (IRSS) selects recipients for this award, supported by the Donald E. Gardner Inhalation Toxicology Education Award Fund of the SOT Endowment. It honors Gardner’s contributions to understanding the health effects of air pollutants and his mentorship of scientists.
The award provides stipends for early-career scientists to learn novel or emerging inhalation toxicology methods through training in another laboratory, a workshop or class, or a core facility. Alternatively, recipients may develop educational webinars on innovative inhalation and respiratory toxicology methods for presentation to IRSS. Relevant methods include respiratory tract dosimetry and mechanisms of action of inhaled materials. The goal is to strengthen recipients’ ability to advance innovative techniques and understanding of the potential hazards and risks of inhaled materials.
