The Society of Toxicology’s New Experiences in Toxicology Program (NEXT) supports additional training that helps postdoctoral fellows transition into professional positions in toxicology. Administered by the Education and Experiential Opportunities Committee, it funds professional development workshops, short courses, and other toxicology-related activities, delivered virtually or in person.
The program emphasizes training outside a fellow’s current area of study and exposure to alternative career sectors. For example, an academic or industrial postdoc could pursue training in government or regulatory toxicology. The experience must address a career-related skill gap that cannot be met through the fellow’s existing postdoctoral program or research project. Additional experience in the same sector is not the program’s intent.
