It helps former participants in the SOT Undergraduate Development Program attend the Annual Meeting and present an accepted abstract, encouraging continued involvement in biomedical science and toxicology.
The award honors Perry J. Gehring, SOT President from 1980–1981, whose contributions included biological modeling, scientific evidence-based risk assessment, and building scientific organizations. Its emphasis reflects his commitment to encouraging underrepresented students to pursue careers in science. Recipients receive a travel stipend and plaque and are recognized during the SOT Undergraduate Development Program Reunion.
