Key Information: Nominees must be elected government officials, with a nomination letter from an SOT member.
The Society of Toxicology (SOT) Science Policy Leadership Award recognizes elected government officials who demonstrate support for science related to protecting or advancing the health and safety of people, animals, or the environment. It honors leadership at the local, state, national, or international level, rather than funding a research project.
The award recognizes two forms of contribution: support for scientific research that increases knowledge and advances health protection, and the pursuit of public policy or decision-making related to health and safety. A nominee may qualify through either or both forms of leadership. The nomination letter describes how the official’s support for research or policy has addressed human, animal, or environmental health protection.
