    Description

The Society of Toxicology administers this award through its Mechanisms Specialty Section to recognize PhD candidate and postdoctoral research represented in abstracts submitted to the SOT Annual Meeting. An appointed committee of section officers assesses the overall scientific quality of each abstract and its relevance to mechanistic toxicology. Graduate student and postdoctoral trainee applications are judged separately.

The award honors Sheldon D. Murphy, a SOT Charter Member and the Society’s fourteenth President (1974–1975). The Sheldon D. Murphy Memorial Fund commemorates his contributions to toxicology education, research, and public service, as well as his leadership in the field. The award is made possible by the Sheldon D. Murphy Student Award Endowment Fund.
