Key Information: Applicants must be SOT student members or have membership pending; training must extend beyond their graduate program.
The Society of Toxicology’s Supplemental Training for Education Program (STEP) helps graduate students prepare for professional positions in toxicology through training that addresses identified skill gaps. Administered by the Education and Experiential Opportunities Committee, it supports professional development workshops, short courses, and other training experiences connected to students’ career goals but unavailable through their graduate training and research programs.
The emphasis is on closing unmet training needs rather than completing a thesis or dissertation. Training may relate to a student’s field of study, but STEP does not support refining dissertation-related techniques, attending professional society or scientific conferences, or supplementing internships. The program gives priority to activities and courses distinct from those offered by the applicant’s home institution.
