    Description

The Society of Toxicology (SOT), through its Carcinogenesis Specialty Section (CSS), presents this annual merit award to recognize junior faculty members whose work advances understanding of the mechanisms of environmental agent-associated carcinogenesis. The award encourages transformative mechanistic research and recognizes cumulative contributions to the field, rather than focusing solely on a proposed project.

The award’s endowment honors Professor James A. Swenberg’s contributions to biomarkers of DNA damage and understanding how environmental agents cause cancer through genotoxic mechanisms, as well as his commitment to helping junior faculty succeed in academia. The recipient is asked to share their chemical carcinogenesis research in a brief presentation at the CSS Meeting/Reception during the SOT Annual Meeting.
