Summary: Recognizes mentoring that has substantially enhanced the career development and advancement of toxicologists.
Key Information: Nominees must be members of the Society of Toxicology.
The Society of Toxicology (SOT) presents this award to recognize a member whose advice and counsel have substantially enhanced toxicologists’ career development. It honors the quality, extent, and impact of mentoring rather than the mentor’s personal career achievements or formal teaching activities.
Recognized mentoring includes advice on career and work strategies, nurturing intellectual growth, inspiring ethical behavior, creating opportunities through recommendations and referrals, and serving as a positive role model. Both formal and informal relationships qualify, including interactions within and outside the mentor’s workplace. Mentoring during or after undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral training is considered.
