Description
The Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant Program supports general recycling and waste reduction projects by South Carolina counties, cities, towns, and regions that provide solid waste services. Administered by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services’ Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling, the program funds projects that demonstrate a positive impact on local governments’ efforts to reach their recycling and waste reduction goals.
The program operates annually and is funded by a $2 retail fee on appliances and lead-acid batteries. It is part of the Office’s local-government grant offerings, alongside separate programs for used motor oil collection and waste tire management. The broader grant framework assists local governments and regions in carrying out their responsibilities under the S.C. Solid Waste Policy and Management Act of 1991.
