Description
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources administers this grant to help community public water systems protect the streams, lakes, springs and groundwater reservoirs used to produce drinking water. Supported by Drinking Water State Revolving Fund set-asides authorized under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, the program promotes source water protection awareness, education and implementation. Preventive planning helps reduce the need for costly treatment upgrades and protects community health.
Funding supports development of original, voluntary local protection plans, revision of plans with expired endorsements, and implementation of currently endorsed plans. Implementation activities may include best management practices, outreach, education and other efforts addressing a protection plan’s documented action items, goals or objectives.
