Description
The South Atlantic Sea Grant Marine Fisheries Extension Fellowship provides on-the-job education and training in marine fisheries extension and communication. It is a collaboration among the Sea Grant programs of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida and the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council. The fellow works with Sea Grant fisheries extension specialists and Council staff from the Council’s headquarters in North Charleston.
The fellow engages recreational and commercial fishing communities across the Southeast through activities such as dock and tackle-shop visits, outreach events, seminars, and educational resource development. The work supports the Council’s Citizen Science Program and Best Fishing Practices efforts, with the goals of increasing participation, encouraging adoption of best fishing practices, and building long-term trust with fishing communities.
