Description
The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) administers federal Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It funds project sponsors in nine South Carolina service areas to help low-income people with HIV who are homeless or at risk of losing housing.
Funded work includes short-term rent, mortgage, and utility assistance; supportive services; permanent housing placement; and transitional short-term housing subsidies. Sponsors provide case management and individualized plans addressing clients’ housing needs and pursuit of permanent housing. Temporary short-term housing may include transitional shelter rent and hotel or motel leasing.
