Description
The Fulbright Scholar Program’s South Pacific Islands Award supports scholars undertaking teaching, research, or combined teaching/research projects at accredited higher education institutions. Applicants may propose work in one or two eligible countries: Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, or Vanuatu. Projects are sought in all disciplines, and research proposals need not be limited to the award’s listed areas of interest.
Scholars may teach undergraduate or graduate courses, mentor students, develop faculty research skills, and contribute to curriculum or program development. Public talks and engagement with the academic community are also supported. The award combines academic exchange with opportunities to experience host-country life and build cross-cultural connections. Grantees should be prepared for developing, fluid, and austere university environments, often as the only Fulbrighter or one of very few in their country.
