The Southeast Asian Flagship Language Initiative–Indonesian (SEAFLI-Indonesian) is a special track of the Boren Awards that offers U.S. undergraduate and graduate students immersive, intensive language study in Bahasa Indonesian. The program is designed for participants at all proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced. It features a mandatory domestic summer program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by a fall semester of language and cultural immersion at the State University of Malang in Indonesia. Participants may optionally extend their overseas experience into the spring semester for further language study, research, academic internships, or additional coursework. The initiative aims to rapidly increase proficiency and cultural understanding, supporting U.S. national security and professional development goals.
