Description
South Arts’ Southern Prize for Literature supports writers at a critical stage in developing an original book-length manuscript. Open to all literary genres, the program supports works in progress, including draft chapters, substantial revisions, and exploratory writing that demonstrates structure, character, argument, or voice. Fellows are not required to complete or publish their manuscripts during the award period.
The program gives equal weight to artistic excellence and artistic merit, emphasizing distinctive voice, command of craft, originality, risk-taking, and a compelling creative direction. Funding can create time for writing and support research, caregiving, workspace, equipment, and professional consultation. Through a partnership with The Betsy Hotel, awardees also receive sponsored residencies in Miami Beach and promotional support to elevate their work and visibility.
