Southwest Minnesota Arts Council (SMAC) offers Quick Support for Organizations to provide more quickly accessible funding for planning and small projects. Supported work includes planning a specific large-scale public art project, presenting exhibits or performances, offering community art classes outside schools, purchasing small equipment, and strengthening or establishing arts organizations.
The program supports both public-facing arts activities and organizational capacity. Arts organization development can include staff or board training, consultant assistance, community surveys, and new programs or services. Start-up support can cover articles of incorporation, bylaws, and filing for 501(c)(3) status. Public art planning may include artist requests for proposals, community input, cost research, and feasibility or sustainability studies. Funding comes from Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage fund through a legislative appropriation.
