Description
This initiative, led by the European Space Agency (ESA) in partnership with ENTSO-E (the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity), seeks proposals for proof-of-concept studies and pilot projects that leverage space technologies to enhance the resilience of Europe’s electricity transmission systems. The call targets solutions that address critical risks—physical, cyber, and climate-related—impacting grid infrastructure, and emphasizes operational continuity during high-impact events such as extreme weather or cyberattacks. Projects should demonstrate the operational value of integrating Earth observation, satellite navigation, and satellite communications with grid operations, supporting real-time monitoring, risk forecasting, post-event recovery, and secure connectivity.
The call is structured around two core themes:
- Theme 1: Situational Awareness for Critical Events (focuses on real-time monitoring, risk forecasting, and post-event support)
- Theme 2: Strengthening Operational Resilience for the Grid (focuses on secure timing/positioning, backup communications, and grid restoration)
Solutions must be market-ready, commercially viable, and demonstrate clear added value from the use of space assets.
