This European Space Agency (ESA) Kick-Start opportunity supports early-stage service concepts using satellite data or space technology to improve tourism management, enhance visitor experiences, and protect natural and cultural assets. It aims to help destinations, tourism operators, and public authorities balance tourism’s economic benefits with environmental and social sustainability, addressing challenges such as overtourism, congestion, seasonal demand, accessibility, and environmental impact.
Through six-month feasibility studies, companies develop business cases, explore technical feasibility, validate the integration of space technologies, and engage with users and customers. Concepts can use satellite navigation for positioning and location-based services, Earth observation for environmental and heritage monitoring, or satellite communications for connectivity in poorly served destinations. ESA seeks customer-focused concepts with commercial potential and a credible pathway to commercially viable services.
