Description
The Michigan Department of Transportation’s Office of Passenger Transportation administers the Specialized Services Program. It provides operating assistance to improve public transportation in Michigan, primarily for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Providers may use the funds to deliver service, purchase service from others, lease vehicles to provide service, or combine those approaches.
The program is part of Michigan’s passenger transportation system and operates under Act 51 of the Public Acts of 1951, as amended, and departmental policy. Its funding comes from the state’s Comprehensive Transportation Fund, which receives portions of motor fuel taxes, vehicle registration fees, and sales taxes on automobiles and other auto-related products.
