Description
The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) administers this USDA Agricultural Marketing Service program for projects that enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops produced in the state. Specialty crops include fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops, including floriculture.
The program supports work on consumption and market access, production and distribution, food safety, pest and disease control, seed varieties, research, and environmental sustainability. In its 2026 solicitation, South Dakota prioritized projects that expand access, production, and distribution; increase consumption and purchasing; or improve environmental sustainability. Projects addressing other listed program outcomes were also eligible.
