Description
The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Speed Feedback Signs program places driver-speed displays along state highways within Iowa communities. A highway that carries fast-moving traffic between towns may also serve local access, pedestrians, bicyclists and on-street parking within a city. By showing approaching drivers their speed, the signs aim to slow traffic, improve safety and make streets more livable while reducing the need for constant police enforcement. They do not issue automated citations.
Iowa DOT procures and installs an assembly at each approved location. Assemblies include a foundation, pole, speed feedback sign, speed limit sign, solar panel and other hardware. Once installed and operating, each assembly becomes the city’s responsibility.
