The SPJ Freelance Fellowship provides independent journalists with the opportunity to attend the Society of Professional Journalists’ (SPJ) national convention. The fellowship is designed to foster professional growth, networking, and community engagement for freelancers by offering conference registration, travel stipends, and mentorship. Established in 2022 under the SPJ Foundation Freelance Fund, the program aims to ensure that independent journalists can access training, resources, and events that might otherwise be out of reach. Selected fellows receive guidance from experienced members of the SPJ Freelance Community to maximize their experience at the convention.
