Description
The Sport Fish Restoration Program is a partnership among Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, anglers, boaters, and the fishing and boating industry. Supported by taxes on fishing equipment, electric motors, sonar, and motorboat fuel, it helps sustain and improve sport fishing opportunities in Texas.
TPWD uses annual program funding to monitor fish populations, habitats, and public use; develop harvest regulations and stocking plans; and conduct applied freshwater and coastal fisheries research. The program also supports aquatic education, investigations of fish kills and water quality, habitat protection, hatchery operations, public outreach, and projects that improve fishing and boating access.
