SSH Discovery Award supports experienced researchers conducting larger, longer-range healthcare simulation studies to advance theoretical and applied knowledge, with emphasis on broadly applicable work.
Funder: Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH)
Due Dates (Anticipated): May 2027 (Letter of Intent / Full Proposal)
Funding Amounts: One award of up to $30,000; project completion within 24 months
Summary: Supports experienced researchers conducting larger, longer-range studies that advance theoretical and applied knowledge in healthcare simulation.
Key Information: Projects receiving additional non-SSH external funding are ineligible; reported internal institutional support is allowed.
The SSH Discovery Award is administered by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, supported by the SSH Fund, and reviewed by the SSH Research Committee. Introduced with the 2025 award cycle, it supports larger, longer-range healthcare simulation projects led by experienced researchers, with preference for larger-scale or multi-institution studies.
The award seeks research that advances theoretical and applied knowledge in healthcare simulation. Priorities span simulator fidelity and resource use, team learning, training dose and timing, competency-based assessment, simulated participants and emerging technologies, in situ simulation, extended reality, and debriefing. The committee also considers high-quality proposals outside these priorities. Innovative studies with potential for positive impact and broad applicability are encouraged, including pilot projects and sound qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method research.
