The Scottish Society for Northern Studies supports the organisation of conferences specifically aimed at postgraduate students and/or early career researchers. Events must address subjects relevant to the Society’s aims and give these researchers opportunities to present their work in progress. Support covers day conferences, residential conferences, and other longer events that are predominantly self-organised and otherwise externally funded.
The Society encourages research on the interactions and influences of the Scandinavian, Celtic, and Scottish worlds. Its interests include archaeology, history, place-name studies, literature, language, and manuscript studies across Scotland, the Northern and Western Isles, Scandinavia, and the wider North Atlantic. This grant complements the Society’s general Publication and Conference Grant, with a specific focus on postgraduate and early career research communities.
